1. What substrate are you using? Paper towels: is this bad? They're easy to clean and cheap, but if you guys say I shouldn't use them, then do you have any suggestions? I dont really like cage carpet, and I heard slate tiles are difficult to heat. And any granular substrate is a no-no.
2. What sized enclosure do you have your leo in? I have him in a 10 gallon for now. I have a pair of 20Ls but I need to bleach them out before putting him in there and I want them to air for three weeks or so to make sure it wont harm him. So this 10gal is a temp and should be alright for now, right?
3. What are your warm side temperatures? 90F 88-93 is what it's supposed to be, right?
4. How are the temperatures measured? a ghetto temp scale that should be stuck to the side of the cage but i have it on the bottom. If anyone can link me to a good thermometer, I would be grateful. Or like one of those lazer ones that you just point at it and take the temperature of it? Really I need some suggestions because I am aware my heating setup isn't adequate and I'd like to know what you guys use.
5. What are you using as your heat source? uth
6. Do you have any method of regulating the temperatures? Yes I have a ghetto thing with a dial on it between low, medium etc etc. And this would be fine if I had a good thermometer to know what the temperature is at.
7. How many hides do you have for your leo? What are they? Two. One warm hide and one cool hide. I'm afraid I can't fit anything else in this 10gal.
8. What food have you offered? Only crickets since I've had him, I forgot to pick up some mealies while I was there.
9. How often do you offer food? I usually try to keep a couple in the cage with him all the time. I never was too sure about how to offer food. I have a keeper with my crickets in it and they have a moist paper towel and some cricket food in there. How would you recommend I feed my leo and how often? D:
10. Are you supplementing the food? If so, with what and how often?</b> I didn't supplement this batch. I have some calcium+d3 and a multivitamin, but I dont know how often I should dust the crickets with this. I know there is a schedule, and if anyone can enlighten me to it, that'd be great.
11. How old is your leo? I honestly have NO idea
12. How long have you had your leo? one day!
13. Give a little detail about the behaviour of the Leo also he's very calm but often walks around the cage and stands up, scratching this glass. should he be doing this? like he wants out. but i just got him, is that normal?
Anyway basically, I've had leopard geckos before, but I want to drop ALL my old habits and try and learn anew, so he can be as fat ad healthy as I've seen other people's leos. He has only eaten ONE cricket from what I've seen since I've had him. Is it normal for them not to eat for a few days when you just get them? He's looking a little thin around the edges. Is it normal for him to be scratching the glass?
Alright, here are some photos. He's a patternless, I think. The store had him as Leucy but I didn't think leucy leos were technically leucistic. He's very dark: this could either be because of stress or because of the fact that he was on black calci-sand in the store. some of the photos are bad since I didn't really want to handle him and he walks around a lot.
